Swirling mists surround a portion of the Wrangell Mountains in southern Alaska near the border with the Yukon Territories. The Wrangells are the second-highest volcanic range in North America and include peaks soaring above 16,000 feet, (4800 meters). Several native peoples have historically occupied villages in the area, for example, the Ahtna, Upper Tanana, Eyak, and Tlingit have called this beautiful land their home for centuries, and many still do. I was en route to Fairbanks in the fall season when this grand spectacle came into view in the late afternoon.
