A breaker crashes on a rocky remnant at Sunset Cliffs in San Diego. Layered elements wear down from the relentless wave action according to the durability of their motherstone. This rounded concretion is weathering more slowly than the adjoining sandstone and gives the appearance of a permanent beach ball attached to the cliff.
