The Jinshanling section of the Great Wall meanders through a mountainous region of China's Hebei Province, and features a mix of historic remnants and revitalized features. It was an honor for me to spend some time alone in this section after it closed to the general public for the day. The isolation permitted with this powerful historical monument, built during the Ming Dynasty, filled me with awe and a certain humility as echoes of history engulfed my senses. This section of the Great Wall was built in the 14th century and later reconstructed in the 16th century. Shown here is a deteriorated section of the Jinshanling Great Wall backdropped by an appropriate sky-painting.
