Golden Eagle

A majestic golden eagle just after lift-off in the Peninsular ranges of Southern California. Golden eagles can sport an impressive seven-foot wingspan and are capable of diving at three hundred twenty kilometers, or two hundred miles per hour. Their rich brown coloration can be laced with golden highlights. These mighty raptors can live up to thirty years in the wild and will be content in mountains, tundra, woodlands, or plains. They construct large nests in accommodating trees or on rocky ledges, and will care for one to four hatchlings each breeding season. They will often hunt small mammals as a pair, with one eagle driving the prey to the other one.
