The Roman Empire significantly influenced the area then known as Lusitania, and maintained a dominance from the 2nd century BC to the 4th century AD. They created infrastructure like roads and aqueducts, and integrated their culture, which is still influential throughout what is identified as  Portugal today. An example of this presence is the architectural relic known as The Roman Temple, maintained in the 5000-year-old city of Evora. This temple, featuring Corinthian pillars, adds even more historical antiquity and was built some 2500 years ago during the period of Roman occupation.
