Chilean Coast

The rugged Chilean coastline not far from Vina Del Mar is blushed by late sunlight cast over the Pacific Ocean and reflected into a darkening sky. This area experiences geological stresses, including earthquakes and volcanic activity, as it is located on an active continental margin, and is also at the mercy of shifts and movements in the nearby Andean Range. There is a mere 125 miles, or 200 kilometers, separating this coastal sea-level position from Aconcagua, the mightiest mountain in all of the Americas, which rises to over 22,850 feet, or 6750 meters.
