It was quite an experience to arrive in a small tribal-operated camp in northern Tanzania during the dry season, and this particular season, I was told, was particularly dry. It was early afternoon when I settled into my little hospitality hut, when, about an hour after arriving, the skies darkened, the wind blew, and a crackle was heard in the heights above. The sound of gentle drops of rain rapidly increased to a pounding rhythm, and then subsided again to a gentler rain for about 45 minutes.
It was about 30 minutes after the rain stopped that I answered a knock on the door to be greeted by two local gentlemen who had come to welcome me and in their typically hospitable way, thanked me profusely for bringing the much-needed rain.
